What chartering a private jet actually costs in 2026, real hourly rates by aircraft class, example route prices, and a live calculator. The numbers most brokers hide behind “call for a quote,” published.

Private jet charter hourly rates by class

Charter is priced by flight time, so the hourly rate is the foundation of every quote. These are 2026 all-in market ranges.

How we calculate charter cost

The model is billable hours × hourly rate + fixed trip fees. Billable hours come from the route’s great-circle distance and the cabin’s cruise speed, plus block overhead for taxi, climb, and descent.

Two adjustments make it honest. A repositioning allowance accounts for ferrying the aircraft to you and back to base, and the industry-standard ~2-hour daily minimum means a short hop still bills about two hours, the reason short legs feel expensive per mile. US domestic legs then add the 7.5% federal excise tax; international legs are FET-exempt but add customs, handling, and overflight fees.

The published range is driven by the real spread in market hourly rates, an honest band, never false precision. It’s an estimate to orient you before a written operator quote, not a guaranteed offer.

Charter cost FAQ

How much does it cost to charter a private jet?

Charter is priced by aircraft flight time. Hourly rates in 2026 run about $2,600–$3,800 for light jets, $3,600–$5,200 for midsize, $5,200–$7,600 for super-midsize, and $8,200–$14,500 for heavy and ultra-long-range jets. A short domestic hop like Los Angeles–Las Vegas starts around $7,200; a transatlantic heavy-jet leg like New York–London starts around $78,300.

How is private jet charter priced?

The core formula is billable flight hours × the aircraft's hourly rate, plus fixed trip fees (landing, handling, crew, catering). Two adjustments explain why short hops feel expensive per mile: an industry-standard ~2-hour daily minimum, and a repositioning allowance for ferrying the aircraft to you. US domestic legs add the 7.5% federal excise tax; international legs are FET-exempt but add customs and handling.

What is the cheapest way to charter a private jet?

Book the smallest suitable cabin, fly off-peak midweek dates, and watch for empty legs, repositioning flights sold at a steep discount. Memberships and jet cards only pay off above roughly 25 flight hours a year; below that, on-demand charter is usually cheaper.

Why do short private jet flights seem expensive per mile?

Because of the ~2-hour daily minimum and repositioning. A 55-minute hop still bills around two hours, and if no aircraft is based nearby, the operator ferries one in and amortizes that empty leg into your price. It's why LA–Las Vegas isn't cheap per mile even though it's short.

Are these prices quotes?

No. Every figure here is an honest estimate from our published rate model, meant to tell you roughly what a trip costs before you speak to anyone. Your final price comes in a written quote from the operator and varies with availability, routing, dates, and taxes.
